Grain Free Tahini Granola

Imagine a nutty, sweet, fall-like aroma wafting through your house…that’s what I smell when I bake this granola and it is delightful. Someone needs to get Yankee Candle on this operation ASAP because trust me when I say that Tahini Granola is going to be a best seller. And not only does it smell delicious, but it’s the perfect breakfast with some almond milk and a cup of coffee or as a topping on a protein shake. Plus, it only takes a few ingredients, it lasts all week in the fridge, and it only takes about half an hour start to finish. What’s not to love? And trust me–if you’ve only ever had store-bought granola you need to try this one. You just can’t beat the homemade stuff.

Can you even make a granola grain-free?

While some purists might argue that you can’t make a granola without grains, I beg to differ. Those people also probably haven’t had massive allergic reactions and heart palpitations from eating oats like this girl (but I digress.) You can easily make the same, delicious, crunchy granola bunches without oats. Oats do not have a monopoly on this situation. You just need the right amount of nuts and seeds and you’re golden!

What you’ll need to make the best Grain Free Tahini Granola

The thing I love about making grain free granola is how easy it is! You just make an easy tahini sauce and pour it over your nuts and seeds. If you don’t have these exact nuts you can just swap them out for what you have on hand. And if you don’t like coconut you can just use more almonds.

  • Slivered Almonds
  • Pecan pieces
  • Walnut pieces
  • Unsweetened coconut flakes (I like the large flakes instead of shreds)
  • Chia seeds
  • Flax seeds
  • Honey (or maple syrup)
  • Tahini
  • Coconut oil, melted
  • Vanilla
  • Cinnamon
  • Sea salt

As far as the execution goes, you just mix everything together and pop it in the oven! You’ll want to take it out and stir the granola once to make sure it browns evenly without burning on the edges.

And if you’re loving this, here are a few more gluten free recipes with tahini that I’m all about:

TOTAL TIME 30 minutes
SERVINGS 6

INGREDIENTS

  • 1.5 cups slivered almonds
  • 1 cup pecan pieces
  • 1/2 cup walnut pieces
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened coconut flakes I like the large flakes instead of shreds
  • 2 tbsp chia seeds
  • 2 tbsp flax seeds
  • 3 tbsp honey
  • ¼ cup tahini
  • 2 Tbsp coconut oil melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • ½ tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp course sea salt

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Preheat oven to 275 F°. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Stir together honey, tahini, oil, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until smooth. Mix nuts and coconut flakes in a bowl, then pour the tahini mixture over the nut mixture and stir to combine. Pour the mixture onto the prepared sheet and spread evenly, forming some clumps to get granola clusters.
  3. Bake for 15 minutes, then remove and stir the granola and return to the oven to continue baking for another 10-15 minutes, or until golden.

  4. Allow to cool for 20-30 minutes before serving or storing in an airtight container.
