Golden Milk Collagen Smoothie (Dairy-Free, Paleo)
If you’re into collagen smoothies for breakfast or snacks this golden milk smoothie is a must-try! It takes only a few minutes and a handful of ingredients to make–my kind of recipe!
Every morning I finish my workout and leap into the kitchen to grab the blender and make a smoothie (literally the second I finish stretching.) Most days I’m drinking water and protein powder mixed together, but that can get old real fast, and if I’m cooking and shooting a bunch of desserts I like to kick the day off with a little more nutrition to keep me balanced. That’s where this collagen smoothie comes in–it’s packed with protein, healthy fats, and boosted with anti-inflammatory turmeric!
What is golden milk?
TBH I still don’t really know, but golden milk sounds fancy so I’m not above jumping on the bandwagon. From what I gathered on the interwebs it’s basically a drink with turmeric, and I’m all about turmeric for all of it’s health benefits and it’s taste, so it was about time I tried out this trend! While a lot of people make golden milk lattes with non-dairy milk and turmeric, I made a smoothie situation with the extra boost of collagen and almond butter involved because that’s how a roll (and if I’m drinking a smoothie it’s gonna taste bomb. It’s my personal rule.)
What you need to make healthy turmeric smoothies:
My favorite thing about these smoothies is how versatile they are. You can easily omit ginger or cinnamon if you don’t have them on hand, and you can change around the kind of milk or nut butter you add depending on your preference! Super easy peasy. Here’s the base of what you need, but feel free to customize it as you’d like.
- Frozen riced cauliflower – this helps thicken the smoothie without adding junk!
- Coconut milk – or your dairy free milk of choice
- Unflavored collagen, to add protein and thicken the smoothie
- Honey – to add a bit of sweetness
- Almond Butter – duh! You can use cashew or another nut butter
- Turmeric – you can use fresh or powdered
- Ginger
- Cinnamon
- Ice
Tips for making Healthy Golden Milk Collagen Smoothies:
- You can use any dairy-free milk you’d like! I use coconut or almond milk for my smoothies, but anything will work just fine.
- You can also use any sweetener you’d like, such as monkfruit for a keto smoothie.
- You can omit the nut butter or swap it out for another nut butter.
- Make sure you have FROZEN riced cauliflower!
- Use a high-quality unflavored collagen like Great Lakes or Vital Proteins
- Add some fruit such as mango or orange if you’d like a sweeter smoothie.
